Is my J.C. Penney closing? Check this list

J.C. Penney announced it would close 140 stores and two distribution centers last month amid cratering sales and lower-than-expected earnings. On Friday the company released the list of specific store closures.

Seven are to close in Michigan.

  • Lakeview Square Mall, Battle Creek, MI
  • Delta Plaza, Escanaba, MI
  • Westshore Mall, Holland, MI
  • Copper Country Mall, Houghton, MI
  • Birchwood Mall, Kingsford, MI
  • Midland Mall, Midland, MI
  • Cascade Crossings, Sault Ste. Marie, MI

There will be approximately 5,000 Penney’s employees nationwide who will be affected by the closings.

The closures, most of which are scheduled to happen in June, represent about 14 percent of the department store operator’s current store count.
