Grand Rapids police are identifying the pedestrian who was hit and killed by a vehicle around 7 p.m. Thursday. Martin Jay Defouw was walking north across 44th Street SE when he was hit by a westbound vehicle, police said. Police said 64 year old Defouw, was about 50 yards west of the Kalamazoo Avenue intersection, which has crosswalks. Firefighters were called in to remove Defouw’s body from under the vehicle. The driver involved wasn’t hurt. Police say neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash.
