Grand Rapids Public Museum Carousel gets makeover

The Cook Carousel Pavilion at the Grand Rapids Public Museum is currently empty, as the 1928 Spillman Carousel is getting a makeover.

The carousel houses two chariots, a band organs and 50 animals.

The museum hopes to have the carousel back in 2021, however a lot of work goes into restoring it.

Stevie Hornyak, an exhibit specialist for the museum, says she put in over 200 hours owrking on repainting one of the horses alone.

When the carousel returns, it will come with upgrades for the visually and hearing impaired, as well as bilingual safety instructions.
