GRPD capture male suspect in standoff

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police say a 29-year-old man is in custody after a five-hour standoff on the city’s southeast side.

Police say the suspect is wanted on various warrants, including some for violent crimes.

Officers say the man was under surveillance when they spotted him running into a home in the area of Boston Street and Fuller Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say several people not involved evacuated the house and were taken to safety by officers.

Grand Rapids Police Department surrounded the home. Officers called in the Special Response Team and crisis negotiators to connect with the suspect, which ultimately led to his voluntary surrender around 8 p.m.

No one was injured in the incident.
