Former bus driver arraigned on assault charge

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Comstock Park Public Schools bus driver has been arraigned on an assault charge in connection to an alleged incident with a 7-year-old student.

Scott Gordon Baker, 54, was arraigned Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery.

Authorities say the charges were authorized last week after investigators examined video that they say shows Baker assaulting a student.

Investigators allege that Baker was trying to get a child to sit in an appropriate place on the bus, and when the child refused, Baker used his knee to “nudge” the boy before aggressively forcing him into the seat.

Authorities say the driver didn’t punch or hit the child.

Comstock Public Schools released a statement, saying the situation was promptly investigated and that Baker had been placed on administrative leave.
