Inside Kalamazoo County's new 911 dispatch center

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority is ready to take its first emergency call.

Community leaders officially cut the ribbon Thursday on the new facility, located at Stadium Drive and South 8th Street in Kalamazoo.

The center features a board room dedicated to fallen Comstock Fire Chief Ed Switalski, who was hit and killed while responding to an emergency call in June 2017.

The facility combines 911 centers for the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Western Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety, Portage Department of Public Safety and Kalamazoo Township Police and Fire.
