Update: Authorities capture escaped Newaygo Co. inmate

FREMONT, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have captured an inmate who escaped custody while at a Newaygo County hospital Tuesday morning.

Ian Riley-Jackson Davis, 32, was captured after crashing a motorcycle at the intersection of Mechanic Avenue and Main Street in Fremont.

Davis had last been seen shortly before 9 a.m. near Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Hospital, located at 212 S. Sullivan Avenue in Fremont, wearing orange jumpsuit pants and no shirt.

Newaygo County Sheriff Bob Mendham said Davis complained of seizures Tuesday morning and was taken to the hospital. Around 8:55 a.m., Davis got out of his bed at the hospital and ran away, outrunning a deputy and hospital employee.

On Aug. 10, Davis was booked into the Newaygo County Jail by the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office.

He was in jail for multiple felony charges, including assaulting and obstructing a police officer, Watkins said.
