Scorcher: Significant heat this weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The highest heat index readings in years could be coming to West Michigan this weekend.

While air temperatures will really start to ramp up Thursday, the full effect of the heat wave won’t be felt until Friday and Saturday. Storm Team 8 is forecasting a high around 88 degrees Thursday with lower humidity. Air temperatures Friday and Saturday will be well into the 90s.

Heat index readings Friday could hit close to 100 degrees, with 80s at the beaches of Lake Michigan. Inland heat indices Saturday should be over 100, and reports closing in on 110 are possible.
