Berrien County official dead after crash

HAGAR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A longtime elected official for  Berrien County died when her vehicle veered off M-63 and hit a garage.

The  crash happened around 10 a.m. Thursday near Eaman Road in Berrien  County’s Hagar Township, north of Benton Harbor. The Berrien County  Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle was heading north on M-63 when it left  the roadway and hit a garage on the west side of the road.

The driver was identified Thursday evening as Lori Jarvis, who had been the Berrien County register of deeds since 2001.

Authorities say alcohol and speed do not appear to have been factors in the crash. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Jarvis was the only person in her car and no one was inside the garage at the time of the crash.
