Senators ask what, when Simon knew about Nassar

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Former Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon testified Tuesday before a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing on the institutional failings that allowed former sports doctor Larry Nassar to sexually assault athletes.

Simon was among three people called to Washington for the hearing. The two others are former officials for USA Gymnastics, where Nassar also assaulted his patients.

Simon told lawmakers that she was not aware of Nassar's abuse before 2016 and that she wishes his predatory behavior was exposed sooner. She denied any wrongdoing by the university.
