Kalamazoo River expected to crest Thursday or Friday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — City officials are telling Kalamazoo-area residents to expect flooding when the Kalamazoo River crests Thursday or Friday.

The river is expected to crest nine feet either late Thursday or early Friday. In the past 96 hours, at least four to five inches of rain has fallen in the Kalamazoo River watershed area, according to a City of Kalamazoo news release.

Flooding was seen near the intersection of Ampersee Avenue and Ray Street in Kalamazoo Thursday morning.

Road closures are expected due to flooding, closures include Vine Street near Upjohn Park, Crosstown Parkway near Sheridan Drive, Dutton Street and streets in near the Crosstown Ponds.

Drivers are advised to avoid flooding, be aware of barricades in place and do not move or drive around barricades.
