Identity thieves target Kent County mailboxes

ADA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are searching for identity thieves who’ve targeted dozens of mailboxes in Kent County.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office was alerted the scheme on March 15, when someone spotted a suspicious vehicle in Ada Township and saw a man and woman going through mailboxes and taking mail.

Authorities say as time progressed, they began receiving numerous complaints of identity theft statewide, including 35 people in Kent County alone, including in the Lowell area.

Investigators have determined the mail thieves opened bogus credit cards in each victim’s name, then stole those cards from the victims’ mailboxes when they were delivered.
