Man hospitalized after shooting at GRPD

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- A man is in the hospital after police say he pulled out a BB gun, fired it at police and then crashed the scooter he was riding in Grand Rapids Sunday morning.

GRPD said the situation started at Joe Taylor Park, when a 41-year-old man reportedly pulled out what appeared to be a gun and fired it at police. Officers said the man was shouting at them that he wanted to die. Officers took cover and did not return fire. The suspect eventually took off on a scooter.

At around 7:20 a.m., the man then crashed into a car at the intersection of Wealthy Street and Fuller Avenue, less than half a mile from the park.
