Meds missing after thief’s joy ride through 2 counties

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Walker police are looking for one last tote of prescription drugs that fell off of a stolen vehicle.

It all started around 7:30 a.m. Monday at the Meijer store on Alpine Avenue NW in Walker.

Officers say the 2013 yellow Penske rental truck was filled with prescription medications headed to pharmacies when the driver stopped at Meijer. Officers say a Walker man saw the truck unlocked and running in the parking lot, jumped in and took the vehicle for a joy ride, with no idea what was inside.

Detectives tell 24 Hour News 8 that when the stolen truck hit some bumps, its back door opened and the drugs, which included narcotics, fell out.

An Allegan County animal control officer spotted the stolen vehicle in the 3000 block of M-40 near Hamilton. Authorities stopped the driver and arrested him. Police are not releasing his name until he’s formally charged in the case Tuesday.
