Lansing community welcomes adults with disabilities

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Matt Arends, 37, is a pioneer.

He’s the first to move into an eastside Lansing neighborhood near Sparrow Hospital to launch a small community of adults with disabilities.

Eventually, the hope is that Arends, who has autism, and others will live independently in apartments or homes in the neighborhood and have the social support of others nearby.
