Retail Fraud Ring Broken For Good

A man tied to a $300,000 fraud at Walmart and Sam's Club was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison.

Alexander Santiesteban-Criado, a Cuban citizen and lawful  U.S. permanent resident, was sentenced Monday, April 24, by U.S.  District Judge Janet Neff.

She ordered Santiesteban-Criado to spend two years on  supervised release after his prison sentence ends and to pay $39,239 in  restitution.

He is the last of four to be sentenced in this case.

The four were arrested last year in Kent County. They were part of a  Texas-based scheme in which credit cards were re-encoded with stolen  credit-card numbers to buy gift cards and purchases at retailers such as  Sam's Club and Walmart, the government said. The FBI said the defendants hit Sam's Club stores in Alpine Township, Cascade Township, Holland, Lansing and Muskegon.
