GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Several headstones at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Grand Rapids have been damaged, and the vandalism is currently under investigation. Rory Beth Novosad, the managing director of the Diocese of Grand Rapids Catholic Cemeteries, reported that 11 headstones or grave markers were overturned over the past weekend. According to a witness, John Rusilowski, tire tracks were visible around the vases, which had fake flowers scattered "all over the place."
The Grand Rapids police are actively investigating the incident, and nothing in the cemetery can be moved until the investigation is complete.
They are urging anyone with information to contact them at 616-456-3400 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
