Man sentenced to prison after two violent encounters with GRPD

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A man will serve more than 10 years in prison after two violent interactions with Grand Rapids Police.

Nodin Chervenka first interacted with GRPD in December 2023. He went after officers with a box cutter and officers shot him. He was charged with assault at the time.

Three weeks later, Chervenka assaulted a man with a knife and kicked him in the head. Police arrived on scene and Chervenka told them he had a knife, put his hands in his pockets and charged at officers.
