Woman gets jail time after smuggling drugs to inmates

A woman from Cedar Springs has been sentenced to jail after attempting to smuggle drugs into the Kent County jail and falsifying an attorney's name to do it.

A Kent County judge sentenced Shannon Jean Soltys to nine months in jail, along with three years of probation after forging mail as if it were from attorneys and using attorney-client privilege to smuggle drugs into the jail.

The investigation began back in April 2023 when the attorney who got returned mail told deputies he didn't recognize it as something that came from office. When the package was opened, it was revealed inside were strips of Suboxone that Soltys intended to smuggle to an inmate.
