The U.S. Department of Agriculture is declaring a disaster for the sweet cherry crop in Michigan.
The disaster includes Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Crawford, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, Otsego and Wexford counties.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says the state lost roughly 75 percent of its sweet cherry crop due to a mild winter and warm and wet early season.
Farmers can now apply for low-interest federal loans to help cover their losses.
