The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration is awarding the Grand Rapids Fire Department a $1.5 million grant for workforce development.
GRFD will use the funding for a five-story firefighter training facility.
The facility will be built near Alpine Avenue on the west side of the city.
The grant will be matched with local funding.
