Hydroelectric pump uncovered at GRPM construction site

The expansion of the Grand Rapids Public Museum has yielded the discovery of an 8-foot-tall hydroelectric pump, potentially dating back as far as the 1880's.

The pump was dug up by construction workers at the construction site on Tuesday. The plan is to salvage it for a future museum exhibit.

The museum itself is currently undergoing a $50 million expansion that will include a number of new features, including a riverside terrace and an outdoor classroom.
