John Ball Zoo welcomes new female eastern mountain bongo

John Ball Zoo is excited to announce the birth of a female eastern mountain bongo, one of the world's largest forest antelopes.

Their 4-year-old female bongo Carrot and 10-year-old bongo Beckson welcomed their new calf, Chestnut on July 23, who has been reported to be healthy and currently with Carrot behind the scenes.

Guests will be able to get a glimpse of Chestnut in their outdoor habitat next week.

The eastern mountain bongo is primarily found in Kenya, and is considered endangered due to poaching, habitat destruction and illegal trapping.
