The Michigan Supreme Court has rendered a ruling that the Legislature's 2018 ballot initiative to raise the state minimum wage and end sub-minimum wages for tipped workers was unconstitutional. The organization "One Fair Wage" says that will result in 494-thousand Michigan regular and tipped workers seeing their minimum wage increase to 12-dollars per hour beginning February 21st.
House Minority Leader Matt Hall reportedly wants the Legislature to discuss the matter as soon as possible, because the ruling will impact restaurants and other businesses.
State Senator Thomas Albert of Lowell says the Legislature must act to keep the current minimum wage and sick-leave laws in place.
