Safe Summer campaign to crack down on gun violence

U.S. attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten is joining with local law enforcement to crackdown on gun crimes this summer.

The "Safe Summer" initiative will allow the U.S. Attorney's Office to take over the prosecution of a case if it involves a federal firearms offense and if a gun used in a crime has previously been used in a crime.

Totten's office says they have seized one illegally possessed gun each day this year.

The campaign will run from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
