GRPS class lobbying for official state insect

The state of Michigan could get an official state insect thanks to a fifth grade class at Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Michigan and Iowa are the only two states without a designated state insect.

Earlier this year Emma Witkovsky put together a book to teach her students at Aberdeen Academy about all of the states.

Her class realized Michigan had no officials insect and decided the stonefly would be a good choice based on the role it plays in the food chain.
