Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency reaches settlement over lawsuit

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency is reaching a preliminary settlement in response to a lawsuit.

The suit was brought by individuals who were ordered to repay their pandemic-era jobless benefits before a protest or appeal on their case was resolved.

The UIA will request $55 million from the state to cover the settlement.

The UIA will also implement new policies as a result.
