GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - The company that owns the Wendy's on Port Sheldon Street in Jenison is being sued for $20 million after an 11-year-old became extremely sick after ordering a burger, chicken nuggets and fries.

Tom Worsfold, the attorney representing the Lamfers family, tells WOOD-TV their daughter, Aspen, spent three weeks at Helen Devos Children's Hospital after an E-coli infection became something more serious.

"The infection continued to progress and attacked her pancreas and her brain," Worsfold said. "She had significant brain swelling suffering seizures while in the hospital, she had left-sided paralysis."

The girl also spent a week at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.

Meritage Hospitality Group has not commented.

Multiple health code violations have been linked to the restaurant.
