A bipartisan group of lawmakers is introducing a bill that would require Michigan schools to create a behavior threat assessment before the fall.
Experts say while physical security plays a role in school safety, its not the only way to prevent violence.
Secure Education Consultants president Jason Russell says behavioral threat assessments are crucial to protecting students and teachers.
Russell says 90 percent of schools have some sort of process in place, however the process differs building to building, which can lead to a breakdown in communication.
The bill would require a behavioral threat assessment team to monitor concerning behavior and develop a reporting system.
