Suspect facing attempted murder charges after shootout with GRPD

The Kent County Prosecutor's Office says a man is facing charges after exchanging gunfire with Grand Rapids Police Officers on Saturday evening.

Eighteen-year-old Saul Rodriguez is facing two charges of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is also facing charges in connection to a separate carjacking and assault in January.

On Saturday, GRPD officers were pulling over a vehicle when Rodriguez jumped out of the car and began to run away.

Officers chased Rodriguez, identified he had a gun and ordered him to drop it.

He turned and fired shots and officers and they returned fire.

No one was injured during the incident.
