Bill would bring organ donation education to MI schools

A bill before the Michigan Legislature would educate students on organ, eye and tissue donations.

In Michigan, 57 percent of adults are organ donors.

However, only 21 percent of new drivers are registering as organ donors.

Gift of Life Michigan VP of communications Patrick Wells-O'Brien says other states are seeing higher registration rates and he doesn't think it is because Michigan teens are less generous.

Wells-O'Brien says he thinks the decline is due to education.

The bill would required public schools in Michigan to offer one hours of education on organ donations to 9th graders.
