DDA giving $20.5 million to riverfront amphitheater project

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - The Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority will be spending more than $20 million over the next twenty years on the city's riverfront amphitheater project.

Crain's Grand Rapids Business says the money will cover debt service on the facility.

Kent County will contribute $15 million from lodging taxes. The Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention-Arena Authority has also agreed to spend $22 million to purchase land for the site.

Ground on the 12,000-capacity venue will be broken in May.
