A Kent County jury found a man guilty after he was accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend with an AR-15 as she sat in a parked car with their daughter.
The incident happened May 31, 2023 in a parking lot downtown.
Luis Bernal-Sosa's attorney asked the jury to find his client guilty of a lesser charge due to his mental state at the time of the incident.
Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker called the shooting "an execution".
The 21-month-old in the backseat was not injured.
