Consumers Energy is looking for buyers for 13 hydroelectric dams.
The utility says the licenses for the dams expire in 10 years and the structures need capital investment and maintenance.
Consumers says they can either replace the dams, sell them, renew their licenses or remove the structures.
The dams account for less than 1 percent of energy used by customers.
