The city of Grand Rapids is asking residents to clear storm drains to prevent flooding as temperatures warm up.
There are over 17,800 drains in the city and keeping them clear is a large task.
City of Grand Rapids storm water manager Daniel Taber says residents need a safe area to stand to start.
Then, residents should use a shovel to physically break up snow and ice around the drain.
Taber says residents should not use salt to try to clear the drains.
