Kent County to add new judge

Kent County is creating a new district court judge due to high caseloads and strain.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a bill recently that paves the way for a new judge position.

From 2016 to 2020, the 63rd District saw an average of 26,541 new cases.

The district's two judges were each responsible for 13,271 cases.

The new judge will be elected in 2024.
