New bills are being considered in the Michigan Legislature that would allow schools to teach firearm and hunting safety.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says there were more than 800,000 hunters in 2000 but there are now only around 550,000.
The department expected that number will continue to drop, so they want to attempt to increase interest in young people now.
The legislation would allow schools to offer a hunting and gun safety class an an elective for students 6th grade and older.
