Ottawa County commissioners pass $264 million county budget

OLIVE TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - On a 7-3 vote, Ottawa County commissioners have approved the county's budget for the next fiscal year.

The $264 million spending plan would include a reduction in the county health department budget to around $4.9 million. An initial proposal reduced the budget to $2.5 million.

"At a time when inflation is up and more than 20,000 additional Ottawa County residents have signed up for Medicaid since 2019, this is not the time to cut programs that assist with healthy food access, suicide prevention, and substance abuse disorders,” Administrative Health Officer Adeline Hambley said.

The budget takes effect October 1.
