Former bank employees facing charges of embezzlement

A former Grand Rapids bank employee is facing charges after allegedly embezzling $700,000.

Kathleen Ann Matteson worked for a privately held wealth management company that was acquired by West Shore Bank in 2017.

Officials say Matteson had previously transferred funds into a fake company and wrote checks to disguise the transfers as payroll or cash payments.

She then allegedly transferred funds from one trust to another to conceal the fraud.

She is facing two counts of theft, embezzlement, misapplication of funds by bank employee, two counts of aggravated identity theft and bank fraud.
