GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Around 185,000 Consumers Energy customers across Michigan remain without electricity following last night's violent storm.
The National Weather Service will have crews checking damage today to determine the number of tornadoes that hit the area. Alpine, Grand Rapids and Plainfield townships were the hardest hit areas in Kent County.
Ingham County officials say a radar-indicated tornado touched down south of Williamston, injuring a person at a senior care facility.
The Kent County Sheriff's Office says a woman and two children were killed in Spencer Township in a crash last night. It happened when one vehicle hydroplaned into another on 18 Mile near Harvard. The woman was in her thirties. The children were one and three years old.
Grand Rapids Public Schools are closed today. At last check, around 35,000 Consumers Energy customers in the city were without power this morning.
