Head of Michigan State Police retiring

Michigan State Police Col. Joe Gasper is announcing he will be retiring after 25 years of service.

A release from Governor Gretchen Whitmer's office says under Gasper's leadership the department has hired almost 500 state troopers, invested in modern training, increased transparency and more.

His retirement will effect in September.

Gasper says he has been honored to hold the role leading the Michigan State Police.
