GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Trustees have unanimously passed next school year's Grand Rapids Public Schools operating budget.
It calls for a $458 per-pupil funding increase.
Some parents aren't happy. They say the spending plan falls short of several major demands, including school lunch quality, fully-staffing schools attended by majority black students, and improving air quality.
"I know that it's also hard to change a budget so close to us approving a budget," Trustee Jose Rodriguez said. "But I do hope that the district leaders have heard the concerns and moving forward we can, as we do every year, amend some of those budget items to include more of the work that the community has asked us to do."
