Alpine Township Firefighters using Carter Kits to help kids with autism

The Alpine Township Fire Department is using Carter Kits to help individuals with autism.

For children on the autism spectrum, the flashing lights and sirens can make emergency scenes even more frightening.

Deputy Fire Chief Jeremy Kelly says the sensory overload can cause individuals to have increased stress levels.

Firefighters are now using the kits, which are filled with toys, other distractions, ear plugs and sunglasses, to help calm individuals down.
