Consumers Energy will use a temporary natural gas line as it repairs a leak in a permanent line in Barry County.
The leak is located in a gas main that runs under the Thornapple River.
Consumers first learned of the leak on Tuesday, however it was not affecting customers at that point.
The leak got worse as the week progressed.
As many as 4,500 customers are now affected by a loss of pressure.
The utility says the cause of the leak is not known at this time.
