Burton Elementary and Middle School is installing a metal detector for students to walk through every morning.
Grand Rapids Public Schools says the metal detector was put in place as a result of a public safety meeting on February 2.
The meeting was held after two guns were found in the school this year.
Parents and school officials had discussed metal detectors as a possible security measure.
