Lansing nonprofit helping women get free period products

A Lansing nonprofit is expanding and will help provide Grand Rapids low-income or homeless women with menstrual products.

Helping Women Period executive director Lysne Tait says period products are expensive and can take a big part out of a fixed budget.

Tait says 1 in 5 women and 1 in 4 students cannot afford menstrual products.

The nonprofit works with a janitorial supply company and can provide an individual's entire supply for a year for around $40.

The nonprofit also accepts donations.
