Hopkins District Library ending late fees

The Hopkins District Library will no longer be charging late fines.

HDL director Kevin Meyer says research by the American Library Association found that fines do not increase the number of books returned, but actually decrease the amount of people using the library.

The fines make up around 0.5% of HDL's annual revenue.

The library board decided getting rid of the fines was the best choice moving forward.
