Landline users experiencing hiccup with 988 crisis hotline rollout

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline rolled out their 988 dialing code just over six months ago.

However, some landline users in the area are still running into issues when calling local numbers.

Cellphone users are required to use all 10 digits of a phone number to avoid calling the national crisis hotline.

Individuals in the area trying to connect with local businesses like The Grand Rapids Public Library or The Fertility Clinic, will need to dial the 616 area code before dialing the rest of the phone number.

Network 180 takes the 988 calls in Kent County and was unaware of the landline issue until recently.
