Safety tips ahead of Halloween

Police are giving the community safety tips ahead of Halloween weekend.

East Grand Rapids Department of Public Safety Officer Troy Brown is reminding drivers to slow down.

Brown says not everyone will be crossing the road at crosswalks so drivers should reduce their speeds and not be in a hurry.

Police also recommend trick-or-treaters wear light colored clothing and have a flashlight with them.

Brown says parents should check candy before kids enjoy it to make sure it hasn't been tampered with.
