Liquor taxes to pay for road patrol

A new law is giving law enforcement a helping hand.

A secondary road patrol program that was created in 1978 was funded by traffic citations.

However, funding for the program has decreased over time.

The new law will use the liquor sales tax to permanently support the road patrol program.

In the first year, the tax is expected to add $15 million to the fund.

No new taxes are being created.
